2 People Injured in Plane Crash Near High River, Alta.

Two people have been seriously injured after the plane they were in crashed near a small airport in southern Alberta on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m., RCMP told Global News they received a call about the crash, just east of the High River Regional Airport, at 3:48 p.m.

Police did not say if the two injured people were the only people on board. They said the aircraft that crashed was a single-propellor plane.

A spokesperson with Alberta Health Services said the plane ended up in a grassy area between 554 Avenue and 594 Avenue. They said the two victims were taken by ambulance to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in serious condition, but noted they were expected to survive.

Earlier in the afternoon, an official with the High River Fire Department confirmed emergency responders in southern Alberta were called to respond to a “plane down” in the area.

High River is located about a one-hour drive south of Calgary.
