Contacts Between Russia and Tajikistan are Distinguished By Special Trust and Constructiveness


The parliamentarian as part of the Russian delegation headed by Prime Minister M. Mishustin is in the Republic of Tajikistan.

Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev, as part of his working trip to the Republic of Tajikistan, met with the First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rajabboy Ahmadzoda .

Nikolai Zhuravlev stressed that contacts between the two countries are distinguished by special trust and constructiveness. He noted the effective work within the framework of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including in the format of regular meetings of the heads of the parliaments of the two countries. So, last year the visit to Tajikistan of the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko took place , which gave an additional impetus to relations between Russia and Tajikistan, allowed reaching a higher level of strategic partnership and alliance on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and trust. An example is the successful implementation of a unique project to build and equip Russian-speaking schools in Tajikistan, initiated by the Chairman of the Federation Council.

According to the senator, Tajikistan is a reliable ally of Russia in Central Asia and the CIS. “The proximity of the positions of Moscow and Dushanbe allows us to successfully coordinate our actions and solve problems aimed at strengthening regional stability and developing economic integration processes both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international structures.”

“Consultations between parliamentary delegations at authoritative international platforms, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the CIS IPA, the CSTO PA, have firmly entered into practice.”

According to the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, the potential of the Commission for Cooperation of the Upper Houses of Parliaments should be used more actively, moreover, on a planned, regular basis. “The regular meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission, held in November 2022, was devoted to the consideration of a number of topical issues of our relations of mutual interest. I am sure that its results have become another evidence of the mutual desire to actively develop contacts between the parliamentarians of Russia and Tajikistan.”

Nikolai Zhuravlev recalled that the work plan of the Commission for 2023, in particular, provides for the continuation of direct contacts between parliamentarians. “Our immediate task is to restore and increase the volume of cooperation.” The senator said that in 2024 the VIII Inter-Parliamentary Forum “Tajikistan – Russia: the potential for interregional cooperation” is scheduled in Russia. “We hope that its holding will give an additional impetus to bilateral cooperation, will contribute to the dynamics of our trade, economic and humanitarian ties, and direct contacts between the regions. More than 60 constituent entities of the Russian Federation have already signed over 80 agreements and memorandums of cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, technical and educational fields.”

Nikolai Zhuravlev invited Rajabboy Ahmadzoda and his colleagues to take part in the events of the XIV International Economic Forum “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2023” and the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress, as well as in the Forum of Parliamentarians, which is planned as part of the 38th EAG Plenary Week.

In continuation of the visit, the delegation visited the Russian-Tajik secondary school named after Yu.A. Gagarin.

“The school was built with the support of our country and opened on September 1 by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon . Training takes place in Russian in accordance with Russian educational standards. Now the school has 960 students. There are five such schools in Tajikistan,” said Nikolai Zhuravlev .

The school building meets all modern requirements, classes are equipped in accordance with the best practices for organizing the educational process, hot meals are organized for primary school students.

Members of the delegation talked with schoolchildren and presented memorable gifts.
